The Village continues to work with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation on long term solutions for the current challenges at the intersection of Deerbrook Trail and Brown Deer Road. It is our hope to ultimately see traffic signals installed at that location. Such a change is dependent on plans for redesigning the interchange of Brown Deer Road and Hwy 57 (Green Bay Road) that the DOT is currently working on. We intend to keep the public involved and informed as the design process moves forward.

Now that the bike trail is almost completed, at least being used, from County Line Road to Brown Deer Park, a safety issue must be addressed. The southbound trail crossing at Brown Deer Road is very poorly placed and dangerous. Way too many vehicles are using Deerbrook Trail as a fast, short-cut option to go west-bound on Brown Deer Road rather than use the off-ramp from south-bound Green Bay. Cyclists are right there, to the west of car drivers looking east. Someone is going to get killed. Simple solution; make Deerbrook Trail one-way, northbound. Southbound and westbound cars can use  Deerwood Drive.

The final Hwy 100 Road Safety Audit is available on the village's website at the following link http://www.browndeerwi.org/news.cfm?id=210.  Caution it is a very large file.

We only have a hard copy currently. I will be working on getting a digital copy from WisDOT that would best transfer to our website.

Will the Audit be available on the village website eventually?

Thanks for the 'takeaways' Michael. I agree with everything you've noted here. I too hope that both Village staff and the DOT agree with some of these community desires and better ideas for a more 'friendly' environment for our residents and visitors to Brown Deer. Please stay active in the discussions and invite others who share the same passion for our Village.

Takeaway from meeting Wed night: 1) will require a long term/comprehensive/vocal effort of educating the DOT to the needs of Brown Deer, 2) we need to be very consistent/insistent that BD Rd be considered/evolve toward a "pedestrian and bike friendly Village Street" and not a "fast State Highway", 3) stay focused on taking down the Green Bay Rd bridge over BD Rd to grade as a way to reconnect with the eastern shopping district, and 4) the DOT might actually listen if we stay on top of them.
