I am so happy to announce that Dean Elementary was just awarded $6,000 to build a school garden from Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program!  Hooray!

Dennis and I had an opportunity to travel to China this past May and to hike 6 miles on the Great Wall with son Michael. We brought a piece of Brown Deer with us!

Volunteers will be mulching all the flower beds in the school district starting at 6:00AM tomorrow, Saturday, May 15th.

Please feel free to join us ANYTIME (you don't have to be there at 6:00AM ~ come when you can). We will start at Dean School and continue to Middle School (north and south entrances), Admin. building and last, the High School.

If you have it, bring a shovel, rake, weed picker tool, wheel barrel.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU THERE, EVEN IF YOU CAN ONLY SPARE AN HOUR.
Many hands make for little work.

The Brown Deer Scholarship Fund's Annual Door to Door Campaign runs from April 17 through April 25. Brown Deer High School juniors and seniors will visit homes in Brown Deer seeking support for members of the Class of 2010 as they continue their post high school education. New this year is a Basket Raffle featuring a Golfer's Delight, Chocolate Lovers basket, a Dorm basket, Jumpin' Java Coffee basket, Lotions and Potions basket, Summerfest tickets, and Milwaukee Brewers tickets. Raffle tickets will be sold at the high school at a price of 50 cents each or $2 for 5 tickets. Join the fun! The continued support of the community is appreciated.

When I saw two boys with clipboards in my neighborhood on Sunday, I knew it must be Community Scholarship Drive time! I haven't seen any information on this year's effort, but I hope people will be courteous and thoughtful when the students come to the door. My own children benefitted from those scholarships years ago, and I hope residents will continue to dig into their pockets and make whatever level donation they can make. It's one way to directly help our students - and our community!

This posting is made on Behalf of Dr. Deb Kerr.
First let us tell you that all students and faculty are safe. This morning at approximately 8:15am, an alarm sounded at the MS in the boiler room due to a refrigeration coolant leak. The building was evacuated and students were temporarily moved to the High School.

At 9:03am, we received notice from the Fire Department that it is safe to return to the building and resume classes.

We would like to thank our staff and our public safety agencies for their quick and efficient response to this unexpected event.

Please contact us at 414-371-6750 if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Join us on Tuesday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m. at Brown Deer Middle School for a 2010-11 Budget Presentation and Community Listening Session. Brown Deer residents, taxpayers, parents are invited to learn about the process being used to develop the budget, district needs, anticipated expenditures and revenue sources, and the values guiding the process. Share your thoughts, concerns, questions in small groups and with the full group. Your input is valued and will be carefully considered by the School Board, Administration and the Finance and Facilities Committee as the budget development process continues.
